Germany: Activists protesting in Gruenheide, May 10 /update 1

Activists protesting in Gruenheide, Germany, May 10 amid police presence. Heightened security likely.

Warning

Police have deployed to a protest in the Gruenheide area located southeast of Berlin on May 10. Environmental activists have gathered to denounce the planned expansion of a Tesla factory. Participants plan to march to the Fangschleuse Station. Officials have reportedly halted the street march on a number of occasions. Dozens to a few hundred people are participating in the action. The May 10 protest is the latest in response to the issue. A protest camp in the area is scheduled to remain in place through at least May 12.

Police are likely to remain deployed in the area in the coming days. Additional protests, including towards the factory in question, transport hubs, and along local roads, are likely. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Exercise caution in the affected area as a standard precaution. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
